El Shaddai [ el shah-'dah-yy ], with the full title El Shaddai - Ascension of the Metatron , is a computer game developed by Ignition Entertainment for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms . The game was released in Germany on September 9, 2011, and distribution in Europe was taken over by Konami . The title is derived from a biblical name for God. Akeyasu Sawaki is responsible as designer .

El Shaddai is a genre mix of platforming and action adventure . The game is in English and Japanese with German subtitles and subtitles. The game character is steered through the levels from a third-person perspective as well as in many sections, typically Jump'n Run, in 2D view.

action

The plot deals loosely with biblical themes, especially the apocryphal text of the Book of Enoch . The main character, Enoch, was sent by God to take out seven apostate angels. The fighter jumps and fights his way through graphically spectacular scenarios, he receives tips from the off. At certain points he meets Lucifer, who is connected to God with his mobile phone and saves the game at this point. Enoch has three different weapons to fight the opponents who appear in the game: Arch, Veil and Gale. In rock-paper-scissors style, these three weapons all have strengths and weaknesses and offer different special attacks and movement changes (e.g. jump extension). Different combinations are necessary in order to be able to pass in higher degrees of difficulty. Weapons have to be cleaned regularly, otherwise they lose efficiency in combat, which is made clear by the changing colors of the weapon. Such cleaning can be carried out at any time by pressing a button. However, weapons can also be stolen from opponents in combat, which skips the cleaning process of the weapons used.

reception

Despite mostly positive reviews, praising the graphic style, the easy-to-learn combat system and the varied soundtrack, El Shaddai sold so slowly in Germany that the sales price was halved after just a few weeks. In week 2/2012 the price was further reduced to 20 euros. A big point of criticism of the game was the imprecise controls in the 3d platforming passages.
