history

The Pyramid of Tepozteco was built in the middle of the post-classical period on a summit of the Sierra de Tepotztlan above the pre-Columbian city of Tepoztlán. The temple was important enough to attract pilgrims from Guatemala itself.

The pyramid consists of a 6.4 m high platform on which the 3.3 m high base stands. On top of this there is a 2.7 m high room. A small opening with traces of coal and copal was found in the middle of this room .
