Ela (Amorae)
Ela or Ilai II. (Hebrew אלעאי, also Ila'a , Leja , Jela ) was a 3rd generation Amora in Palestine and lived and worked around the turn of the third and fourth centuries AD.
Next to Zera I. he was the most important scholar at the beginning of the 4th century. in Tiberias and was called by him because of his exegetical acumen "builder of the law".
His Haggadan saying is particularly well-known that the character of a person is most clearly shown “bekosso bekisso ubeka'asso” (German: with a glass, ie with alcohol, with money and with being angry) (Bab. Eruwin 65 b).
Ela was a teacher of Abins I., Jonas and Joses.
