Detmold Chamber Orchestra

The Detmold Chamber Orchestra is an orchestra in the North Rhine-Westphalian city ​​of Detmold . It consists mainly of students and young graduates from the Detmold University of Music . The artistic director and chief conductor of the ensemble is Alfredo Perl .

history

Emerging from the renowned Tibor Varga Chamber Orchestra , which was founded in 1954 by the Hungarian violinist , violin teacher and conductor Tibor Varga (1921–2003), the Detmold Chamber Orchestra has existed since 1989. In 1989 Varga passed the direction on to Christoph Poppen ; since then the orchestra has had its current name. As the successor to Christoph Poppen, Eckhard Fischer , violinist and professor for violin at the Detmold University of Music, led the orchestra until 2009. Alfredo Perl has been the ensemble's artistic director since 2009 . The repertoire of the Detmold Chamber Orchestra ranges from the works of Johann Sebastian Bach to contemporary works.

In 2015, the orchestra, together with Alfredo Perl , Gerhild Romberger and Stephan Rügamer, was awarded the ECHO Klassik in the chamber music recording of the year category (music of the 20th / 21st century) .
