Alfredo Perl (* 1965 in Santiago de Chile ) is a Chilean pianist .

biography

Alfredo Perl continued his training with Carlos Botto in Santiago de Chile at the Cologne Music Academy with Günter Ludwig and in London with Maria Curcio . As the winner of several important piano competitions - he won first prize at the International Piano Competition in Montevideo and successfully took part in the Busoni Competition in Bolzano and the Vienna Beethoven Competition - he soon became one of the most important pianists of his generation.

In 1996/97 he performed all of Ludwig van Beethoven's piano sonatas in London ( Wigmore Hall ), Santiago de Chile and Moscow . At the same time he recorded the 32 sonatas and the Diabelli Variations for the Arte Nova label ( BMG ) in cooperation with Radio Bremen . Concerts and recordings met with a very positive response. The music critic Joachim Kaiser wrote : "[...] with great unused freshness, with extreme tenderness and unaffected brilliance, he comfortably demonstrated how little tradition-fulfilled and felt Beethoven play ends even in our prosaic times."

Further recordings for the same label were three CDs with piano music by Liszt , Brahms sonatas with the clarinetist Ralph Manno , Beethoven sonatas with the cellist Guido Schiefen as well as piano concertos by Grieg and Szymanowski (the symphony No. 4, also called "Sinfonia concertante") ). This was followed by recordings for the Oehms-Classics label , including Beethoven sonatas with the violinist Benjamin Schmid and piano concertos by Liszt. In March 2010, Celestial Harmonies released a double CD with the three late Schubert sonatas.

Perl played in concert halls such as the Großer Musikvereinssaal (Vienna), the Concertgebouw (Amsterdam) and the Teatro Colón (Buenos Aires), and appeared at renowned festivals such as the Rheingau Music Festival , the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival , the Schwetzinger Festival and the International Music Festival in Bath and the London Proms and has given concerts with numerous renowned orchestras, including the Gewandhausorchester (Leipzig), the Orchester de la Suisse Romande and the London Symphony Orchestra . Since 2007 he has been professor of piano at the Detmold University of Music , and since 2009 also artistic director of the Detmold Chamber Orchestra .

In 2015, Alfredo Perl, together with Gerhild Romberger , Stephan Rügamer and the Detmold Chamber Orchestra, was awarded the ECHO Klassik in the chamber music recording of the year category (music of the 20th / 21st century) .
