Elan is a cultivar of the cultivated apple ( Malus domestica ). Elan were bred from James Grieve and Golden Delicious in the Netherlands.

Description and cultivation

Elan is a rather large apple that is round and bulbous. The basic color is yellow or golden yellow, it is striped red on the sunny side. Its skin is smooth and dry. The taste varies relatively strongly depending on the cultivation and can range from undifferentiated juicy and sweet to a rich aroma with pronounced sweet and sour notes.

The apple blooms in early May. Elan is ripe for picking in September to October.

Elan was bred in 1967 at the Wageningen Research Center in the Netherlands. and launched in 1984.
