Elcan 7x50

The Elcan 7x50 (abbreviation for Ernst Leitz Canada ) is a pair of binoculars from the Canadian subsidiary of Leitz (Optik) (now Leica Camera ), designed for the Canadian armed forces in Wetzlar and built in Canada. It is technically a Porro prism binoculars ( Schmidt-Pechan prism ). The binoculars were built from 1974 to 1977 and were in use until 2000. 8,200 copies were built. Of these, 7800 were for the army and 400 for the civilian market. Today the glasses are still used by the Canadian Rangers .
