Electronic bag tag

The system Electronic Bag Day of IATA is the electronic version of luggage tags made of paper. From a smartphone app of this supportive airline luggage tags by is Bluetooth to the integrated into the trunk E Ink transfer display. In order to use it, it is only important that the first airline at which the check- in takes place at the airport supports the system.

history

The IATA is currently developing the system (as of 2018). So far, a guideline has been published which is intended to ensure compatibility among the various providers and baggage processors. In addition, the first airports were checked for the processing of luggage with electronic tags.

technology

The system includes mandatory (mandatory) and optional components. Mandatory is a display to show the luggage tag and Bluetooth Low Energy to transfer the data. Optionally, RFID and NFC can be implemented so that the luggage tag can be read out without scanning the display.

Alternatives

Alternative systems for electronic luggage tags are the Rimowa Electronic Tag and the BAGTAG system.
