Elektro is a humanoid robot that was constructed by the Westinghouse company between 1937 and 1938 . It was exhibited at the 1939 World's Fair in New York. Elektro has an outer metal cover, is approx. 2.20 m tall and can be controlled by a person via a telephone connection to Elektro. He can move around, count his fingers, smoke a cigar and has a limited vocabulary of 700 words. With the latter, he is able to simulate a conversation. A year later in 1940, Elektro is put to the side by a robot dog named Sparko. It can bark, wag its tail and “sit”.

Elektro is on display at the Mansfield Memorial Museum in Mansfield , Ohio .
