Electron conduction
Electron conduction describes the charge transport through electrons .
Metals are electron conductors because they have electrons in the conduction band.
In the case of a semiconductor , one speaks of electron conduction when the electrical conduction takes place primarily in the conduction band . Electron conduction dominates in an n- doped semiconductor. The counterpart to this is formed by p-doped semiconductors. Here, the charge is transported through holes and is therefore called hole conduction .
The term electron conduction is also used to distinguish it from ion conduction . In contrast to ion conduction, the charge transport in electron conduction does not take place through ions, but through electrons.
In electron tubes , the charge is transported by free electrons .
