Electric steel mill

In an electric steelworks , steel is produced from raw materials (mostly scrap ) in an electric arc furnace or (for small quantities) in an induction crucible furnace at 1500 to 1800 ° C. The way electric steel furnaces work allows the production of chemically resistant types of steel , especially high-speed steels and special steels.

The first electric steel plant in the world was in 1906 in Remscheid taken from the steel works Lindenberg in operation. One of the most modern plants is in Peine ( Lower Saxony ).
