Elena Băsescu

Elena Băsescu (born April 24, 1980 in Constanța ) is a Romanian politician who was a member of the European Parliament in the EPP Group from 2009 to 2014 .
Life
The youngest daughter of Romanian President Traian Băsescu was the chairman of the youth association of the PD-L party , which also supported her father, before her candidacy . Before entering politics in 2007, she worked as a model and studied economics.
Her candidacy, supported by her father, also met with criticism in her own party because of the accusation of nepotism , which is why Elena Basescu did not run for the originally intended 5th place on the list. Instead, she ran as an independent candidate. With a historically low turnout of around 27%, it received 4.22% of the vote (around 211,000), which was enough for the mandate. However, this result was still charged with the accusation that the President had been too active in gaining the 200,000 approving signatures necessary for the candidacy and in the election by assuring a minimum number of votes in each polling station by the party committees of the PD-L. Romanian journalists found out during covert research that the casting of the necessary votes had been ensured through the local clubs of the PD-L party.
Elena Băsescu has been dubbed in the media as "Barbie doll", "Party princess" or "Paris Hilton of the Carpathians". The press criticized that it had no political experience, was not able to speak Romanian grammar and was not able to represent the country in Europe. Her father sat out the public outrage about it.
MEP Member of European Parliament
In the European Parliament, she was deputy chairman of the Committee on Petitions and a member of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs , of the delegation in the committees for parliamentary cooperation EU-Armenia, EU-Azerbaijan and EU-Georgia and in the delegation for relations with Israel .
