Elfie Miklautz

Elfie Miklautz (* 1958 ) is an Austrian cultural sociologist and university professor. She teaches at the Vienna University of Economics and Business and conducts research at the interfaces between science and art.

Career

Miklautz studied sociology and philosophy in Klagenfurt and Vienna and obtained his doctorate in 1992 on the social significance of artefacts. As a scholarship holder, she investigated the (measurement) alliances between selfishness and selflessness and did research a. a. at the Warburg Institute in London and in Florentine archives. Awarded for innovative teaching, Miklautz completed his habilitation in 2008 at the Vienna University of Economics on the symbolic economy of the exchange of gifts.

For her often interdisciplinary work, Miklautz uses not only cultural sociological but also philosophical, cultural anthropological, economic and art theoretical concepts. After analyzing, among other things, symbolic economy, product culture and the logic of cultural fields, the focus of her research has recently been on the creative industries and music-aesthetic subjects, mainly in the area of ​​tension between knowledge through art . Her writings and projects on this are considered to be trend-setting - such as a three-year, process and work-oriented cooperation between scientists and artists on the topic of other spaces .
