Elias Diebel

Elias Diebel (active in Lübeck in the 16th century ) was a German wood cutter and illuminator .

Little is known about Diebel's life. What is certain is that he lived in Lübeck in the second half of the 16th century. Various prints by him have come down to us from this period, including a sheet depicting the twelve apostles .

Diebel's best-known work is the monumental panorama of Lübeck , first printed in 1552, reprinted in 1574 and serving as a template for numerous views of the city for almost a century. Thieme-Becker highlights a woodcut with the twelve apostles.
