Ernst + Ursula Hiestand was a design partnership that existed in Zurich from 1960 to 1981 .

History and work

Ernst + Ursula Hiestand was founded in 1960 by the two Swiss graphic artists Ursula Hiestand and Ernst Hiestand in Zurich.

The design partnership was a member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale AGI, the Association of Swiss Graphic Designers VSG, the Swiss Werkbund and the SID Swiss Industrial Designers. She does visual design, packaging design, exhibition design and product design and designed banknotes .

At the end of the 1960s, Ernst + Ursula Hiestand designed six new Swiss banknotes for the Swiss National Bank , which were valid from 1976 (until 2000). The front of the notes always contained a portrait of a historical personality and the corresponding back always contained a thematically close reference to the depicted personality.

In 1972 the drafts for new banknotes for the Swiss National Bank by Ernst + Ursula Hiestand were shown at Documenta 5 in Kassel in the department Parallel Imagery: Social Iconography .
