Ernst Hiestand (born September 16, 1935 in Zurich , Switzerland ; lives in Zollikon , Canton of Zurich ) is a Swiss graphic and graphic designer , visual designer and design consultant specializing in commercial graphics .

life and work

The first 20-franc commemorative coin in Switzerland was designed by Ernst Hiestand for the 700th anniversary of the Swiss Confederation (1991).

Ernst Hiestand trained as a graphic designer at the School of Design in Zurich . He continued his education in Paris . He has had his own studio in Zurich since 1960. He does visual design, packaging design, exhibition design and product design .

Ernst Hiestand was the head of the graphics class at the Zurich School of Design. He is and was visiting lecturer at the Ulm School of Design , the Basel General Trade School and the Lucerne School of Applied Arts .

From 1960 to 1981 he maintained a studio community with the Swiss graphic artist Ursula Hiestand and the design partnership Ernst + Ursula Hiestand .

Hiestand is a member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale AGI and president of the Swiss section and chairman of the Federal Expert Commission for the Recognition of Higher Schools for Design and a leading member of other professional associations.

In 1972 the drafts for new banknotes for the Swiss National Bank were shown at Documenta 5 in Kassel in the department Parallel Imagery: Social Iconography .

Hiestand has received numerous national and international prizes for product designs, exhibition and packaging designs, posters , advertisements and brochures.
