100-franc note of the 6th series of Swiss banknotes designed by the Hiestands

At the end of the 1960s, the Hiestands designed the sixth series of Swiss banknotes for the Swiss National Bank , which were valid from 1976 and were recalled in 2000. The front of the notes always contained a portrait of a historical personality and the corresponding back always contained a thematically close reference to the depicted personality. In 1972 the drafts for new banknotes for the Swiss National Bank were shown at Documenta 5 in Kassel in the department Parallel Imagery: Social Iconography .

From 1960 to 2007 she ran her own studio for visual design in Zollikon. As early as 1962, Hiestand became the second female designer to become a member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale AGI. She is a member of the Association of Swiss Graphic Designers VSG, the Swiss Werkbund SWB and the SID Swiss Industrial Designers.

Hiestand is best known for her text designs and drafts of posters . The comprehensive archive of Ursula Hiestand's studio as well as the joint design partnership is in the collection of the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich.
