Elias Pereira Moniz

Elias Pereira Moniz (* around 1960 ) is an independence activist and politician from East Timor . He is a member of the Partido Democrático (PD) .

As a student, Moniz campaigned against the Indonesian occupation of his home country. On June 14, 1989, he was arrested by the Indonesian military in Bali , where he was studying at Udayana University .

After the Indonesians withdrew from East Timor, Moniz entered the civil service. From 2009 to 2011 he was the head of the water and basic sanitation department in the districts in the National Directorate for Water and Sanitary Services, which was subordinate to the State Secretary for Electricity, Water and Urbanization. From 2012 to 2015 Moniz was State Secretary for Water, Hygiene and Urbanization (SEASU) in the fifth East Timorese government .
