Elias van Praag

Elias van Praag (born June 7, 1884 in Amsterdam , † December 16, 1942 in Mauthausen concentration camp ) was a Dutch actor.

Life

Elias van Praag was the son of Salomon van Praag and Eva Pimentel. After completing his military service in 1904, he began studying medicine and then attended a theater school until 1907. Van Praag worked as a theater actor in various ensembles and began working for the radio in 1926. He also starred in a few films in the 1930s.

After the German occupation of the Netherlands in 1940, his activities were drastically restricted for racist reasons. Van Praag was the artistic director of the Joodsche Schouwburg in Amsterdam, which announced a Nelson show for February 1942 .

In 1942 van Praag was deported to Mauthausen concentration camp , where he died in December of the consequences of the abuse, inflammation of the kidneys and urinary poisoning.

His wife Catharina Carolina Rentmeester survived the war.
