Elina Hirvonen (born April 20, 1975 in Helsinki , Finland ) is a Finnish writer , journalist and documentary filmmaker .

Life

Elina Hirvonen studied literature at the University of Turku and directing (documentary film) at the Aalto University (Helsinki University of Art and Design) in Helsinki. She lives and works in Helsinki.

Hirvonen's first novel, "Että hän muistaisi saman" (German: "Erinnere dich" ) was published in Finland in 2005. Translations into seven languages ​​followed. In May 2009 the novel was featured in the New York Times Book Review - an honor that is very rare for an author's first work.

The second novel “Kauimpana kuolemasta” was published in 2010 and was awarded the “Kalevi Jäntin Literature Prize” in the same year. The translation rights were sold in six countries.

Elina Hirvonen's first documentary “Paradise - Three Journeys in this World” is about the migration of African refugees to Europe. The premiere took place in 2007 in London. After screenings at various European film festivals, the film won first prize in the “Medium Length” category at the “Ecofilms Festival-Rodos International Film & Visual Arts Festival” in 2008.
