Elise Gleichmann
Elise Gleichmann (born August 12, 1854 in Kulmbach ; † July 9, 1944 there ) was a dialect poet, folklorist and saga collector who worked in the Kulmbach region .
Life
She was born on August 12, 1854 in the Apothekerhof in the Kulmbach district of Spiegel. Her father was the Kulmbach citizen and beer brewer Johann Georg Friedrich Hollweg. She attended high school in Kulmbach. In her autobiography , she noted that she was astonished that she hadn't received any punishments in school, “although I was a very loose student, but I still had a stone in the board with all of my teachers”. Although her father was anxious to teach her standard German and also to bring her closer to the French language, she had a special love for the local dialect as a child and adolescent . In 1873 she married the forest assistant and later forester Gustav Gleichmann in Kulmbach. She was a housewife and forester's wife until her husband's death on November 19, 1908. After she had become a widow at the age of 55, her previous hobby became a vocation at the suggestion of local researcher Franz Karl Freiherr von Guttenberg . She collected legends , children's songs and Schlumperlieder , researched the customs and traditions of the Kulmbach region and worked on a dictionary of the Upper Franconian dialect, which she was unable to complete and therefore remained unpublished. She died on July 9, 1944 in her home town of Kulmbach and is buried in the local cemetery.
