The Ellefsen Harbor is a natural harbor at the southern end of Powell Iceland in Archipelago of the South Orkney Islands . It lies between the islands of Christoffersen Island and Michelsen Island .
The British whaling captain George Powell (1794-1824) and his American counterpart Nathaniel Palmer discovered the bay together in December 1821. The name of the natural harbor is recorded on Powell's map from 1822, but the background to the name has not survived.
