Ellesse is a company for sports apparel in 1959 by Leonardo "Mantis" Servadio in Perugia was founded. The name is derived from his initials "LS".

The British Pentland Group has held a stake in Ellesse since 1994 ; since then the company has been based in London .

Ellesse began manufacturing ski clothing in the 1970s : in 1979 the “Ellesse Jet Pant” ski pants were presented at the Pompidou Center in Paris .

In Perugia, the town where the company was based at that time, the Ellesse Grand Prix took place between 1980 and 1986 , a tennis tournament of which the Ellesse company was the organizer and sole sponsor.

Ellesse also led sponsorship in football through and put in this context the equipment for the existing 1,970 to 1,985 football club New York Cosmos in the seasons 1980-1982 ago; Franz Beckenbauer played for the club from 1977 to 1980 and appeared in his last year in the Ellesse jersey.
