Ellice Ridge

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ellice Ridge ( Ellice Basin Extinct Ridge ) is an oceanic ridge in the Pacific , the highest peaks of which belong to the Ellice Islands (today's Tuvalu ).

geography

The ridge is oriented northwest-southeast and is one of the faults that subdivide the Ellice deep-sea basin . The structure was formed either by cracks in a fault or due to tensions along a strongly segmented axis (Pacific-Bellinghausen spreading center). It is estimated that it was 86 million years old.
