Ellis Genge (born February 16, 1995 in Bristol ) is an English rugby union player . He plays as a pillar for the England national team and the Leicester Tigers .

childhood and education

Genge was born in the Knowle neighborhood and went to school in Kingswood. He attended John Cabot City Technology College and later Hartpury College near Gloucester . He participated in the Academic and Sporting Excellence program and won two championships with Hartpury's selection. At this point he was still playing as number eight . As a pillar he was nominated for all youth selections in England and reached the final of the World Cup with the U20.

Career

Genge began his career in the English Premiership with his hometown club Bristol Rugby . In the 2015/16 season he was loaned to Leicester, where he signed a contract for several years after the season. After the 2016/17 season, he was awarded the RPA Young Player Award as the best young player. The following year he received this award again.

National team

Genge made his debut for England in 2016 against Wales . At the Six Nations 2019 he was used in four of the five games and was nominated for the World Cup .
