Elmar Lampson

Elmar Lampson (born December 3, 1952 in Koblenz ) is a German composer and president of the Hamburg University of Music and Theater , where he also teaches as a professor of composition and theory.

life and work

Lampson studied composition and violin at the Hanover University of Music and Theater . This was followed by freelance years as a composer, conductor and cultural manager: establishment of the Orchestra Academy Hamburg, guest conductor with various German and Eastern European orchestras, concert tours as composer and conductor through almost all European countries as well as through Russia, Georgia and Kyrgyzstan. There were also teaching activities and lecture tours.

He was co-founder of the Hamburg Music Seminar and the Hörwelten Festival - Hamburg Encounters in the Sign of Contemporary Music , which took place annually from 1989 to 1998. In 1997 he was appointed Professor for Ensemble Conducting - New Music at the University of Music and Theater in Hamburg. In 1998 he was appointed professor for the phenomenology of music at the University of Witten / Herdecke , where he was dean of the faculty for the study fundamentale from 1998 to 2004 and still holds the chair for phenomenology of music.

His oeuvre as a composer, published by Peer Musikverlag, includes chamber music, solo and ensemble works, orchestral and choral music as well as an opera. His music has been released on three CDs by the Munich label col legno. He has published essays and contributions to books on music-phenomenological topics and is co-editor of the book series “Copyrights”, which is published by Kulturverlag Kadmos, Berlin.

Elmar Lampson is a member of the Board of Trustees of the BürgerStiftung Hamburg and has been a member of the Free Academy of the Arts in Hamburg since 2012.
