history

Hidenobu Sakaki laid the foundation stone for today's company on April 10, 1921 with the establishment of his eponymous company Sakaki Shōkai ( 榊 商會 , "trading house Sakaki"). The renaming to GmbH G.K. Elmo-sha took place in 1933, before the company changed its legal form to a stock corporation in 1949 as KK Elmo-sha. The abbreviation ELMO stands for "Electricity Light Machine Organization".

In 1927 Sakaki Shōkai manufactured the first 16mm "Type A" film projector ever produced in Japan. On July 23, 2013, the projector was recognized by the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers as a National Heritage Site.

The 16mm was followed by the first 8mm film projector (Hayabusa model) in 1954. The most popular Super 8 film projectors include the ST and GS series, including the GS-800, GS-1200, and ST-1200HD. When the Super 8 era slowly came to an end, ELMO stopped production of its projectors with the last models GS-1200 P Xenon and P Com in 1983. Just like the production of the reflex camera "ELMO Flex", which appeared in 1938, in the mid-1950s. Instead, overhead projectors were added to the range in 1969. In 1984 the company began manufacturing black and white CCD cameras before the first CCD color TV camera EM-101 (micro camera) appeared three years later.

ELMO started the production of document cameras in 1988 and in the late 1990s it specialized entirely in presentation devices for teaching and teaching. In addition, the areas of surveillance systems and sports cameras were further developed. Most recently, the two series “BOXi”, which includes mobile projectors, and “QBIC” - a series of portable sports and outdoor cameras.
