Elongation receiver

An elongation receiver (lat. Longus = wide) is a group of microphones in which the generated electrical quantity ( electrical voltage ) is proportional to the deflection of the mechanical system (e.g. microphone diaphragm). The elongation receivers include, for example, sensors that work according to the electrostatic transducer principle ( condenser microphones ) or the piezoelectric transducer principle ( pickups ).

If, on the other hand, the generated electrical quantity is proportional to the instantaneous speed of the membrane, then one speaks of a speed receiver . All condenser microphones are elongation receivers and all dynamic microphones are speed receivers .
