Parent

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Parent (that or that) refers to a child ( genitor ) or a parent (genetrix) of a child , regardless of the biological sex . The word is the (regressed) singular of “parents”, similar to the word “parent”, which was first introduced into legal terminology at the end of the 19th century and has since been used in official language.

Originally only used in heredity and behavior research , Parent is also used in technical terms for people in some contexts. The “gender-abstract designation” can abbreviate cumbersome designations such as “one parent of a family” or “single parent” or the listing of several possibilities of parent forms.

In biological heredity ( genetics ), parent refers to a member of the parental generation (starting group of a lineage ) who is crossed with another parent. The word is used in this context because, on the one hand, a distinction between father and mother is not always meaningful or possible with hermaphrodite creatures, and on the other hand, many statements refer equally to sperm and egg donors, but only to one parent.

In asexual reproduction , an individual has only one parent, for example: parthenogenesis in marble cancer .
