Elvish Linguistic Fellowship

The Elvish Linguistic Fellowship (ELF) (in German: Community of Elvish Linguistics ) is an international organization under the direction of Carl F. Hostetter , committed to studying the languages ​​invented by JRR Tolkien . It emerged from the Mythopoeic Society . The Elvish Linguistic Fellowship, based in the United States, has members from all continents, especially the United States.

The main activity of the ELF is the publication of two printed magazines, the Vinyar Tengwar and the Parma Eldalamberon , and an online journal, the Tengwestië , published by Hostetter and Patrick H. Wynne. In it, leading linguists publish and analyze previously unpublished texts by Tolkien, and sometimes their own compositions are also printed in Elvish languages.

Carl F. Hostetter (born 1965) is actually a computer scientist at Goddard Space Flight Center of NASA . In addition to his work as an editor, he is the author of several articles on Tolkien linguistics and the founder and co-moderator of the Lambengolmor mailing list . Christopher Tolkien hired Hostetter, along with Christopher Gilson, Arden R. Smith, Bill Welden, and Patrick H. Wynne, to help him research, edit, and publish Tolkien's writings on his constructed languages, and these in the journals Parma Eldalamberon and Vinyar Tengwar to publish.

Patrick Howard Wynne is a draftsman and co-author of Vinyar Tengwar and has illustrated numerous publications on Tolkien's linguistic creations.

Vinyar Tengwar

The term Vinyar Tengwar is Quenya and stands for "New Letters" (or English "Newsletters"). The first issue of this magazine appeared in San Diego in 1988 and was edited by Jorge Quinonez until 1989 (Carl F. Hostetter later took on this task). Until July 1994 they appeared every two months, after that only very irregularly - about once a year. Five anthologies were published under the title The collected Vinyar tengwar , each containing 10 booklets. Issue 50 was published in 2013. In addition, some volumes were also summarized in four special editions The Collected Vinyar Tengwar Special Series .
