Parma Eldalamberon ("The Book of Elven Languages"), also referred to as Parma or PE for short , is a journal published by the Elvish Linguistic Fellowship , which is based on the records of the fictional languages of the British author and philologist J. RR Tolkien and provides an insight into the origin, the structure and the change of these languages is supposed to give his mythological world Middle-earth .

background

The magazine Parma Eldalamberon has been published as an irregular magazine since 1971 by the members of the "Linguistic Fellowship" of the Mythopoeic Society . The first five editions published up to 1977 appeared in 1978 in one volume as An Introduction to Elvish . While the books The Silmarillion (1977), Unfinished Tales. (1980) and The Letters of JRR Tolkien (1981) paused the project until 1983.

Robert Foster brought out the Guide to Middle-earth (1971) and later the extended edition The Complete Guide to Middle-earth (1978). It was only with Christopher Gilson in 1983 that new episodes came out, which have since been published by the "Elvish Linguistic Fellowship". From 1991 onwards, Christopher Tolkien began to publish some of his father's original texts in the magazine, in particular linguistic treatises that he could not accommodate in the extensive work The History of Middle-earth . At the same time, further original texts on the languages were published in the journal Vinyar Tengwar , which dealt more with Tolkien's essays while Parma Eldalamberon published the word lists. The last of the 21 editions so far appeared in 2013 and deals with the structure of nouns .
