Embaga

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Embaga is a dance of the Baganda in Uganda , which at the time of the King (rule Kabaka ) Mwanga II. Late 19th century arose. Kabaka Mwanga was interested in the dance of the people from Busoga and so the dancers in the palace of Kabaka took up elements of the Busoga dances and thus created the Embaga. It is danced to the sound of African drums.

Today the dance is often performed at Baganda weddings , with scenes from married life being interwoven in a playful way.

The strong hip movements show the relationship with the Bakisimba dance.
