symbolism

The symbols shown have the following meanings:

  • The palm leaves that creep out on each side of the outer (golden) circle represent freedom.
  • The color gold symbolizes Africa's wealth and a bright future.
  • The green circle stands for hope and longing.
  • The small connected rings at the bottom of the large circles stand with their mutual penetration for solidarity and with their red color for the blood shed for the freedom of Africa.
  • The monochrome map of Africa in the inner circle is deliberately shown without borders and stands for African unity .

It should be noted that the map of Africa also includes the Canary Islands , which politically belong to Spain, at the top left , and the Reunion Island , which is politically part of France, at the bottom right . The Egyptian Sinai Peninsula , which geographically belongs to Asia, is also included.
