Jan Beneš (born March 25, 1958 in Prague ) is a Czech author who published under the pseudonym Emil Hakl . The author of the same name Jan Beneš (1936–2007) also wrote under pseudonyms.

Life

Beneš only graduated from school after a ten-year hiatus due to drug abuse . He was married three times and divorced the same number of times.

In the 1980s he began to write poems , short stories and first novels under the pseudonym Emil Hakl and founded an author's community Moderní analfabet ( The modern illiterate ). His first volume of poetry was published in 1991 and his first novel in 2001. At the same time, he worked as a writer for an advertising agency in the 1990s .

In 2010, Beneš received the Josef Škvorecký Prize .
