Emil Kapaun
Emil Joseph Kapaun (born April 20, 1916 in Pilsen (Kansas) , † May 23, 1951 in Pyŏktong-gun ) was an American military chaplain .
Emil Kapaun was the son of Czech immigrants. He served as a Roman Catholic military chaplain in World War II and the Korean War , where he also took part in the Battle of the Busan Perimeter . As a prisoner of war , he was distinguished by particular bravery and eventually died of pneumonia .
His beatification process has started. On April 11, 2013, he was posthumously awarded the highest American military medal, the Medal of Honor , by President Barack Obama .
