Emil Markow

Emil Markow Markow ( Bulgarian Емил Марков Марков ; born April 5, 1905 in Berkowiza , † August 12, 1943 in Sofia ) was a leader of the Bulgarian communist movement. He was posthumously awarded the rank of Colonel General . From 1923 he was a member of the Youth Union (Komsomol) and from 1926 or 1927 of the Bulgarian Communist Party (BKP). He took part in the September uprising in 1923 . In 1925 he was tried and sentenced to 12.5 years in prison. However, he received an amnesty in 1929 and traveled to the USSR for training.

Two years later he returned to Bulgaria and became a member of the central committee of the BKP. In July 1941 he was sent to the Gorna Woda prison camp. He escaped in October and was killed in a battle with police in the Tuchlarni fabriki district of Sofia . The Goze Deltschew district of Sofia today was named after him in the socialist past.
