Emilio Diena

Emilio Diena (born June 26, 1860 in Modena , † October 9, 1941 in Rome ) was an Italian lawyer and philatelist . He was one of the most important Italian philatelists . He came from a banking family. Several members of his family were also well-known philatelists.

Life

After completing his law degree with a doctoral thesis in 1883/1884, he first worked in his parents' bank. The bank had to close due to economic problems and from 1894 he went to Rome to work as a librarian for the Ministry of Post and Telegraphy. At the same time he was a curator for a postal museum. As a philatelist, he wrote several books on ancient Italian states and had profound knowledge in the field. He was also a stamp examiner and owned a large private philatelic library . His descendants carry on this library to this day and it contains many old rarities.
