Emir Sultan
Emir Sultan , full name Sayyid Šams al-Dīn Meḥmed ben ʿAlī Al-Ḥüseynī Al-Bukhārī , also Emīr Sulṭān or Emīr Seyyid , (* 1368 ; † 1429 in Bursa ) is according to tradition a descendant of the 12th Imām Muḥammad Al-Maḥdi . He is the patron saint of Bursa.
Life
After his Hajj he reached Bursa via detours, where he gathered his first students around him. The Sultan Bayezid I enjoyed such a high reputation that the latter married his daughter to Sayyid, who bore him three children. Through this marriage he also exercised great influence on the Sultan, so that he managed to convince him to refrain from excessive alcohol consumption.
When Murād II took over the office of sultan, he defeated his nephew Mustafa (called Muṣṭafā Düzme, German "Mustafa the deceiver", who doubted Mūrad II's claim to power) allegedly only through the power of his prayers. The following year, Sayyid took part in the siege of Constantinople .
Sayyid succumbed to the plague in 1429 . His grave is in the Emir Sultan Mosque in Bursa, the burial place of several Ottoman dignitaries.
