The Emir Sultan Mosque ( Turkish Emir Sultan Camii ) is a mosque in Bursa , Turkey . The first building dates from the 14th century under Mehmed I , in 1804 the mosque was commissioned by the Ottoman Sultan Selim III. rebuilt, and again in 1868, whereby the construction plan was slightly changed. The namesake Emir Sultan (* 1368; † 1430), also known as Şemseddin Mehmed Ali el-Hüseyin el Buhari, was a dervish and student from Bukhara and also adviser and son-in-law of the Ottoman Sultan Bayezid I.

The current mosque, nicknamed the Emir Sultan and located in the Emirsultan district of Bursa, was built after the original building collapsed in an earthquake in 1766. Although the building materials and location were retained, the architectural style was adapted to the Baroque style that became fashionable during the Ottoman Empire in the 19th century . After the earthquake of 1855, the mosque and mausoleum of Emir Sultan were rebuilt in 1868 by Sultan Abdülaziz .

The mosque and the mausoleum face each other in a large courtyard with a large basin in the entrance area. The entrances to the inner courtyard are on the east and west, the access to the mosque and mausoleum is through the inner courtyard. Wooden arcades with pointed arches surround the inner courtyard and rise to portals with high domes.

In the south, the mosque consists of a large, domed prayer hall with a square floor plan made of masonry. There are two minarets at their corners to the north . The mausoleum, on the opposite side of the central courtyard in the north, consists of a domed hall in the middle and smaller rooms on the sides and contains the graves of Emir Sultan and his family. Other rooms on the north corner of the courtyard are used by the imams . An old cemetery covers the lower hill part of the complex. Hundi Hatun, the wife of Emir Sultan and daughter of Bayezid I, built the hammam south of the mosque. Numerous historical wells are scattered around the complex ( Külliye ); the oldest is from 1743.

In Darmstadt , one of Bursa's twin cities, there is also a mosque named after Emir Sultan, Emir Sultan Mosque (Darmstadt) .
