The Emirates Durham International Cricket Ground , or Emirates Durham ICG for short , formerly Riverside County Cricket Ground or Riverside Ground for short , is the newest test match stadium in England and home of the Durham County Cricket Club .

Stadion

The stadium is located in Chester-le-Street , County Durham and has a capacity of 17,000 for international matches. The ends of the pitch are called the Lumley End and Finchale End . The stadium is dominated by the picturesque Lumley Castle .

The construction of the stadium was a condition for the approval of the Durham CCC as the eighteenth and so far last first-class county. On May 18, 1995, the first home game against Warwickshire CCC took place, the first One-Day International followed during the 1999 Cricket World Cup in England. It was finally included in the series of English test match grounds in 2003 with a test against Zimbabwe.

In 2009, it was announced that Riverside would receive its first Ashes Test match in 2013 after losing to Cardiff in 2009.
