Emma after midnight is a German television series, the first episode of which was first broadcast on May 18, 2016 on First German Television . Katja Riemann can be seen in the main role as psychologist Emma Mayer . The television series is intended to close the gap that has arisen because the Bloch television series with Dieter Pfaff as psychologist Dr. Maximilian Bloch in the lead role had to expire after 24 episodes because the actor died unexpectedly in March 2013.
As with Bloch , WDR and SWR again worked with Maran Film . One or two films should be made a year. Martina Zöllner , TV director at SWR until June 2017, characterizes Emma Mayer as an idiosyncratic, sometimes headstrong person who acts in a rather unconventional way. Zöllner said that no one could embody this “energetic, intelligent, sensitive figure better than Katja Riemann”.
