Emma after midnight - The wolf and the seven hostages

Frau Hölle is a German TV film made by Torsten C. Fischer in 2016 . It is the second episode of the TV series Emma after midnight with Katja Riemann as the psychologist Emma Mayer, who works for the radio after midnight, in the lead role. The title Frau Hölle is a corruption of the fairy tale Frau Holle by the Brothers Grimm .

action

Emma Mayer, who was previously in the probationary period, was employed as a psychologist at the radio after her first assignment, where she had to deal with a hostage situation, and now regularly moderates her program Emma after midnight . This time a caller named Katharina Holl answers. The woman had already called in two weeks ago and obviously still needs to talk. Holl is known in the media as "Frau Hölle" and is widely considered to be suicidal. Holl was responsible for the safety check of a swimming pool, the roof of which collapsed under the load of snow and as a result twelve indoor pool visitors, including many children and young people, were killed. The psychologist Emma Mayer wants to help Holl. She meets with her and learns that the trial against her will begin shortly. Emma is convinced that there must be someone responsible for the accident that happened and that the guilt cannot rest on one examiner. She persuades Holl that she can live with her responsibility, but shouldn't die for the guilt of others. What is particularly stressful, however, is that the police had found incriminating material during a house search, from which it emerged that Holl had been “smeared” so that she should not look too closely during the examination. That seems mysterious to Emma, because obviously someone has made a lot of effort to put the sole blame on Holl.

Emma uses a golf event to get in touch with those responsible for the swimming pool project. First and foremost, she speaks to Mayor Quade and contractor Marc Warendorf. She speaks to Warendorf's conscience and makes it clear to him that he would bear the majority of the blame because he built the building and used inferior materials. If Holl should actually take his own life, he would also have to live with this guilt. Emma also finds out very quickly that Holl and Warendorf had a relationship with each other. Apparently Holl still loves the building contractor and she would even go to jail for him, but the guilt for people's deaths crushes her.

Emma learns from the mayor that Warendorf became aware of the danger of collapse when the weather on the day of the accident turned threatening. He even called him to close the bathroom. Since Quade did not want to decide that alone, he had phoned all sorts of offices, but no one wanted to hear about it. Quade felt that everyone had to do something. Emma encourages him to tell the truth in court and not to blame even more. The mayor uses the radio station to report on the events and the circumstances of the collapse. Since he too wants to face the consequences, he publicly announces his resignation.

Subplot

Emma's friend Barbara wants to spend a few days at Emma's finca in Mallorca and when she arrives she meets Maxim Ionow, a young man who first flees from her, but comes back later, brings Barbara under his control and talks to her. It turns out that Maxim is Emma's son, who grew up with his father and never met his mother. He wants to know where to find Emma. Barbara then gives him Emma's phone number.

Reviews

Thomas Gehringer from Tittelbach.tv rated: "The second episode of the new ARD series 'Emma after midnight' with Katja Riemann as a radio therapist is an exciting drama about guilt and responsibility." "The communicative title character Emma Mayer is gaining in profile, has more freedom of movement than in the first film and exudes a lot of joie de vivre despite the tragic theme. Torsten C. Fischer's film scores with refreshing dialogues, a strong cast and literally fairytale image design. The mysterious story of Emma's previous life is continued somewhat awkwardly, and the label 'unconventional' sticks all too clearly on the title heroine's forehead. "

For Kino.de , Tilmann P. Gangloff judged : “Parallel to this drama [about the eponymous woman Holl], Emma's personal story also continues. Those who have not seen part one will, however, wonder who the woman played by Karoline Eichhorn is and what she is doing in Mallorca; the few pictures from the first film, with which the second begins, serve at best to refresh the memory. ”However, this second film in the series“ does not achieve the intensity of the first ”part by far. "Actually, however, the story is no less captivating, the dialogues are also excellent."

The critics of the television magazine TV Spielfilm pointed their thumbs up and said the following about the second film in the series: "Unconventional genre tightrope". They rated the film with their thumbs up.
