Emmanuel Asamoah Owusu-Ansah (born February 3, 1950 , Kumasi , Ghana) is a leading sports official, sports scientist and politician in Ghana.

education

Owusu-Ansah finished secondary school in Tema in 1970 and left Ghana to study sports science in Germany and Poland. In 1971 he attended the Sport University in Hennef , Germany for one semester. In 1973 he graduated from the University of Zambia . In 1974 he was invited by the German government to a three-week athletics coaching course.

Between 1975 and 1976 Owusu-Ansah attended a preliminary course at the University of Lodz in Poland and then went on to study sports at the Academy of Sports Sciences in Wrocław, Poland. Between 1976 and 1980 he attended the master’s course and graduated in 1980 with a master’s degree in sports science and physical education. He then did his doctorate in sports science in Wroclaw , Poland. He was awarded his doctorate in 1983.

Career

Soon after his return from Poland in 1983 Owusu-Ansah was head of the Sports University in Winneba ( Winneba Sports College ) in 1984 until he stepped down in 1989. In 1980 he became the technical coordinator of the Ghana Football Association.

In 1992 he became head coach in the field of athletics in the National Sport Council . This was followed by a career as a sports official in the National Sports Council, which earned him the position of Deputy Director of the Sports Department in 1993 and in 2001 led to the management of the Sports Department of the National Sports Council. Also in 2001 he became chairman of the national sports council. In 2003 Owusu-Ansah was appointed Director of Sport Development in the Ministry of Education and Sport under Minister Yaw Osafo-Maafo .

He is a member of the Ghanaian parliament for the constituency of Kwabre West and a member of the ruling New Patriotic Party . In 2005 Owusu-Ansah became Regional Minister of the Ashanti Region in Ghana.

Others

Owusu-Ansah brought the technique of the Fosbury flop into the Ghanaian high jump and coached various national and African championships of successful athletes. He was the coach of Azumah Nelson . He also founded the sports university in Winneba, which he headed himself in the 1980s. For the eighth All Africa Games in Abuja, Lagos, he coached the entire Ghanaian sports team. Ghana won 26 medals largely due to the influence of Owusu-Ansah's training methods. In 2004 he launched the national sports award for Ghana.

family

Owusu-Ansah is married and has three children. Owusu-Ansah's parents are Kenneth Owusu-Ansah and Comfort Oppong.
