Empire is the name of an apple variety.
The variety was created in 1945 as a cross between McIntosh and the Red Delicious variety at the Agricultural Experiment Station in Geneva . From 1966 the variety was brought on the market.
The flesh of this variety is greenish-white, firm, sweet and crisp. The shell has a light green base color, the top color is a strong red.
The variety is considered to be quite robust against fire blight and powdery mildew , but is less susceptible to scab .
