Emsisoft Anti-Malware is an anti-virus program from Emsisoft Ltd. based in New Zealand (until 2014 Austria). The first version was released in December 2003 by its developer Christian Mairoll under the name a-squared Anti-Malware , who had founded the company a few months earlier. In 2005 the product was supplemented by the behavior analysis Malware-IDS (Intrusion Detection System) and renamed Emsisoft Anti-Malware the following year .

The software's market share was last estimated in 2011 at 1% of the “global antivirus software sector”. Since 2014, Emsisoft's anti-malware engine has also been used in other products such as Ashampoo Anti-Virus .

General

In contrast to other solutions, Emsisoft Anti-Malware in the free version for private, non-commercial use offers many functions that are also available in the commercial version, but without real-time protection to prevent new infections. The current version contains over 10 million signatures.

The software works with the combination of an antivirus engine from Bitdefender and its own anti-malware engine. An incremental update function searches for new program versions and malware signatures several times a day. Emsisoft Anti-Malware is only available for Windows .

Users of a shareware version of Emsisoft Anti-Malware have to purchase a license for a fee after a test period of 30 days. Otherwise the essential real-time protection will be deactivated. The software can only be used to subsequently clean infections, but not to prevent them.
