Bitdefender is a Romanian manufacturer of antivirus - program packages (suites). The company was spun off from the software manufacturer Softwin in 2007 . The program package was first published in November 2001 and has been updated at least once a year since then. The 2014 version was released on June 26, 2013 and includes several protection and performance enhancements such as Search Advisor, performance optimization, and Photon technology.

Bitdefender products have anti-virus and anti-spyware, a personal firewall, private settings, user control and backup functions for companies and home users. PC tuning and performance optimization are included in the Total Security Suite. A technology introduced by Bitdefender in 2014 called "Photon" is designed to adapt to the performance of the system on which the software is installed to improve performance. Due to the modern media usage behavior, a new product line "Bitdefender Total Security Multi-Device" was introduced with version 2016, which is available in addition to Windows and Apple OS X operating systems for mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets based on Android and iOS .

history

Bitdefender was spun off from the computer software manufacturer Softwin in 2007. Softwin was founded in 1990 and is based in Bucharest, Romania. The company operates u. a. Offices in Tettnang (Germany), Barcelona (Spain), Fort Lauderdale (USA), London (Great Britain) and Copenhagen (Denmark). Softwin's first antivirus software was called AVX (AntiVirus eXpert) and was released worldwide from 1996 to 2001. AVX introduced some innovations in the antivirus market. For the first time, they offered a smart update that worked without user intervention. A web browser plug-in that scanned and monitored all downloads was also part of the product range. AVX was also a pioneer in blocking technology and was the first program to offer an integrated personal firewall. After six generations of the AVX product line, Bitdefender began in November 2001.

Products

Bitdefender offers products for home users and businesses. The products for private users run on Microsoft Windows , Symbian OS , Windows Mobile , Mac OS X , Android and iOS . The company software runs on Linux , FreeBSD , Solaris and Mac OS X. The current version of the package for private users includes virus protection, anti-spyware, firewall, e-mail spam filter, backup, tune-up and child protection functions. Bitdefender offers a free basic scan on its homepage. The free version of the software requires registration and is then valid for one year. Bitdefender designs its programs to protect computers from viruses and spyware. The free versions of Bitdefender did without the real-time protection of the paid versions in 2011 and were therefore less suitable for computers and devices that are always connected to the Internet.

Technologies

Bitdefender Antispam NeuNet

BitDefender Antispam NeuNet , short for Neural Network ( neural network Artificial ), an anti-spam filter that has been pre-programmed by BitDefender Antispam Lab on a series of spam messages. It remembers spam messages and sorts out new messages based on similarities. The technology thus learns by itself and improves on its own.

B-have

Bitdefender introduced the patented B-Have technology in May 2006. The technology aims to reduce reliance on virus signatures and introduces proactive detection of unknown threats. This technology is based on behavior analysis in a virtualized environment. The technology creates a virtual PC in which files are executed and analyzed. After this evaluation, B-Have decides whether a file is malicious or not. The virtual PC contains a number of virtual hardware devices, thus simulating the configuration of a typical PC. B-Have checks files and programs for typical malware characteristics . A program is classified as malicious if, for example, it tries to modify or read certain files. B-Have also recognizes the creation of a new file that is associated with a known virus and prevents the creation. B-Have starts untrustworthy programs first in the virtual PC. Only when no malicious processes are detected will the program start normally. B-Have automatically deletes potential threats or moves them to quarantine.

Active Virus Control

The Active Virus Control was introduced in 2009 and has been the 2010 versions of the BitDefender product suites.

The technology monitors all processes that run on a PC. The technology records malware-like processes. Every process and every recording is assessed. If a certain limit is reached, the entire process is classified as dangerous. Unlike heuristic technologies, Active Virus Control controls every application as long as it is active and not just when it is started for the first time. Because of this approach, Active Virus Control is seen as a third layer of defense in the antivirus field.
