Grave of Luise Montag

As a child, Luise Montag took singing lessons and belonged to a church choir. In 1866 she made her first public appearance in Vienna. Soon it was known as "Lercherl von Hernals" or "Lercherl vom Michelbeuerngrund". She completed successful tours as a member of folk singing societies that took her to Germany, Russia and Switzerland. Her bright soprano and her mastery in yodelling made her popular. Her duets with Edmund Guschelbauer were legendary .

She took the stage name Montag from Antonie Mansfeld , with whom she temporarily sang in duets and whose maiden name was Montag.

In 1869 Luise Montag married the folk singer Plechaczek, who was known as "Plecherl", but was divorced from him after a short time. She had two children from a later relationship. She was active for a long time and still sang in her 70th year.
