The Emud company was founded in 1911 by Ernst Mästling in Ulm as the Mechanische Werkstätte Ernst Mästling as a manufacturer of nickel-plated umbrella frames .

In 1923 Mästling joined the radio association and in 1924 received approval for the construction of radio systems. Under the brand name Emud ( E rnst M ästling U lm D onau) the company now produced radio devices.

Together with the companies Brandt (Roland Brandt Berlin), Braun , Rundfunkwerkstätten Berlin , Rundfunktechnische Producergemeinschaft , Schaleco and Wega , Emud founded the Radio Union in 1936 for the construction of their own RU1 and RU3 people's receivers . The collaboration ended after two years.

After the war, some devices were sold under the name Mästling.

In 1956 the company employed around 600 people. 25% of sales were generated through export . The production of radio sets was stopped in 1968 due to falling demand.

Emud supplied the tailoring works with radios for the construction of clay furniture. After the bankruptcy in 1972, Schneider took over the former supplier. The then Bavarian machine manufacturer Pollin acquired construction and spare parts from the bankruptcy estate, thus establishing its main business today, the sale of electronic parts.
