Energy audit

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An energy audit is an on-site energy consultation by a suitably trained expert (“auditor”).

Since the amendment of the Energy Services Act (EDL-G) in April 2015, so-called non- SMEs have been obliged to have their energy consumption checked regularly. The definition of non-SMEs results from the reversal of the SME definition . This includes, regardless of the respective industry or area of activity, companies that either employ 250 full-time employees or more or that have an annual turnover of at least 50 million euros and an annual balance sheet total of more than 43 million euros. Excluded from this requirement are local government companies and institutions that work predominantly on a sovereign basis, such as administrations or courts.

The legally required inspection is mostly complied with through energy audits. Alternatively, companies can also introduce energy or environmental management systems.

The Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (BAFA), which is entrusted with the operational implementation of the EDL-G, publishes a list of energy consultants qualified for the audit.

conditions

An energy audit must meet the following requirements:

  • at least 90% of the energy consumption must be checked by the audit
  • the audit must include all parts of the company and their facilities
  • the audit must be based on current, continuously or intermittently measured operating data on energy consumption
  • the audit must include a review of the energy consumption profile of buildings, operations and transportation
