Dobova is a place in southeastern Slovenia , near the border with Croatia . It belongs to the Brežice municipality . In 2002 Dobova had about 720 inhabitants.

Location

In Dobova

Dobova is about 144 m above sea level in the plain between the Save in the west and the Slovenian-Croatian border river Sotla in the east. The Ljubljana – Zagreb – Belgrade railway line runs through Dobova.

Dobova station is the border station to Croatia and the system separation point between the overhead line voltages of 3 kV DC voltage in Slovenia and 25 kV AC voltage with a frequency of 50 Hz in Croatia. After Ljubljana there are 113 kilometers of railway, according to Zagreb 29. The road border crossing Rigonce is in sight to the east of the village.

The area belongs to the historical Lower Styria . Today it is part of the Spodnjeposavska statistical region .

In the course of the refugee crisis in 2015 , Dobova became known nationwide in autumn 2015. After Hungary sealed off the border with Croatia with a fence on October 16, 2015, Dobova became the main entry point for everyone entering the Schengen area on the Balkan route .

religion

The majority of the residents of Dobova are Catholic. The parish belongs to the diocese of Celje .

The parish church is a neo-Romanesque three-aisled building; it was built in 1865 on the site of an older church.
